Is there such a thing as an actual good deed? Or even a good person?

Samaritans is an exploration of the nature of a good deed and its effects on those it touches - is a good deed still a good deed if the giver can’t let it go? And even more importantly: how can we possibly ever actually know each other?

Jeff Talbott/Playwright: Jeff's play The Submission was the inaugural recipient of the Laurents/Hatcher Award and was produced off-Broadway by MCC Theater; it went on to receive the Outer Critics Circle John Gassner Award for New American Play. Other produced works: The Messenger, The Gravedigger’s Lullaby, i, Civics and Humanities for Non-Majors and A Public Education. Other plays: Samaritans; Joseph Cook; Not-For-Profit; Three Rules for the Dragon, How to Build a City, Elliot and All the Stars in the Midnight Sky. He writes musicals with composer Will Van Dyke, the latest of which, fuzzy, received its world premiere in 2025 at Barrington Stage Company and went on to win Outstanding New Work from the Berkshire Theatre Critics Association. Their musical Ten Brave Seconds premieres in February 2026 at Pioneer Theatre Company. Other musicals from the team: Seven Broken Hearts, The Circle and the Wheel, Wintersong, and Imagine Harry. They have released multiple EPs and singles and together were finalists for the 2019 Fred Ebb Award and the 2021 Kleban Award. Corey Allen/Ash: Corey is a multidisciplinary artist, educator, and storyteller whose work spans theater, film, voice, and visual art.  As an actor, Corey’s television credits include The Blacklist (NBC), Mindhunter (Netflix, dir. David Fincher), Madam Secretary (CBS), Power (STARZ), Manhattan (WGN America/Hulu), and The Breaks (VH1). He has appeared on stages across the country. Select credits include Twelfth Night (Denver Center for the Performing Arts), Macbeth, An Oresteia (Shakespeare Theatre Company), Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and A Raisin in the Sun (Huntington Theatre), Alabama Story (Repertory Theatre of St. Louis), and the world premiere of Sea Concerto with Flux Theatre Ensemble. His film credits include Where the Shadows Feast. Corey’s directing credits include The African Company Presents Richard III at Great River Shakespeare Festival, Macbeth at Illinois Shakespeare Festival, and the experimental installation Methods in Madness at The Brick Theater in Brooklyn. In addition to his work on stage and screen, Corey is an accomplished voice artist, with daudiobook narrations including Adjustment Day by Chuck Palahniuk and Black Man in a White Coat by Damon Tweedy. His voice work is also featured in the Apple Original documentary Louis Armstrong’s Black and Blues. He serves as Assistant Professor of Acting at The University of Texas at Austin and is a Creative Partner with Flux Theatre Ensemble in New York City. Corey holds an M.F.A. in Acting from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a B.A. in Drama from the University of California, Irvine.
